Focal hepatic accumulation of radioiodine is a rare finding and is usually regarded as a sign of liver metastasis. Further treatment with operation or radioiodine ablation therapy is usually needed. We report a case of a patient with differentiated thyroid carcinoma who underwent total thyroidectomy and ablation therapy with high dose radioiodine. A focal, round accumulation of radioiodine in the liver was demonstrated in the whole body I scan. Ultrasonography revealed a large liver cyst, which corresponded to the lesion with increased radioiodine uptake.

Unusual false-positive results of whole-body 131I scintigraphy: Four different case scenarios
Post-treatment or diagnostic whole-body radioiodine scintigraphy is widely used to assess the residual, recurrence, or metastases of differentiated thyroid carcinoma because of the high sensitivity and accuracy that this assessment provides. While bearing in mind all the diagnostic potential of this test, we have to consider its’ potential pitfalls, as well. Herein, we present 4 patients with d...
متن کاملMultiple non-malignant iodine uptake in a 131I whole body scan of a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma: Importance of SPECT/CT
After thyroidectomy in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients, whole body radioiodine scan (WBIS) is necessary for localization of any abnormal radioiodine avid lesions. However false-positive radioiodine uptake in WBIS can be problematic. We report a 32 years old female patient with PTC. After thyroidectomy and radioiodine therapy WBIS was performed. In her post therapy WBIS, there were zo...

A 75-year-old male patient with non-avid radioiodine Hurthle cell carcinoma was evaluated by 99m Tc- octreotide scintigraphy, in order to find possible metastatic lesions. A bony metastatic lesion was detected by this procedure which was confirmed by histopathology.99mTc-octreotide scintigraphy is a precise and cost-effective imaging modality for detection of non-iodine av...
متن کاملRadiation dose of caregivers could be reduced in thyroid carcinoma patients requiring high dose of radioactive iodine: A case report
Undesired radiation exposure to caregivers is an important problem in radioiodine therapy in thyroid carcinoma patients, especially when patient is non-ambulatory. Special precautions are needed to keep the exposure to caregivers low when higher dose of radioiodine is necessary. Here we present a case-report of a 74-year old male patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma with local invasion and...

She had a history of thyroid surgery 27 years ago indicating papillary thyroid cancer with central neck lymph node involvement followed by no ad...
